Role: Lead Designer, Architect. I began running design operations and on-boarded a vendor while working with the product owner to iron out the data model. I scaled up to multiple designers and refocused on a design system as we brought in research.

Objective: Pro Portal delivers on administrative needs and operations for the contractor channel that largely drives Resideo’s revenue.

Context: The Resideo Pro base doesn’t have a single destination to manage products, customer data or triage events. The pro also needs a mechanism to track training and perks.

Outcome: The Pro Portal launched late-2019 and is currently a demonstration of design iteration, and a new approach to our engineering process. The design system is a first for the company and built to enable engineering and design collaboration.

Designing one experience for the Resideo Pro

Collaborate

To best understand who our solution would impact, we needed to understand the pro and their pain points day to day. We leveraged journey maps, personas and storyboards to best tell the story behind each feature.

Create

Once we had an idea of the high level objectives, we were able to pull together wires that also established design patterns. I worked with a designer to execute on a new filtering mechanism leveraging find-as-you-type facets.

Validate

We were then able to work with our research team and a custom panel of UserTesting pros to ensure our designs fit their mental model and would expedite their work.

Iterate

To better align with the Pro Installer app, and establish a common design language across the products, I took an initial pass at the design system and pushed for a degree of depth, and contrast for the best execution in a dark user interface.
